President Benigno S. Aquino III declared Tuesday, August 30, 2011 as a regular non-working holiday throughout the country in observance in observance of Eid’l Fitr (Feast of Ramadhan). The declaration was done through Proclamation No.234 which stated that " to promote cultural understanding and integration, the entire Filipino nation should have the full opportunity to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in the observance and celebration of Eid’l Fitr;" and " in order to bring the religious and cultural significance of the Eid’l Fitr to the fore of national consciousness, it is necessary to declare Tuesday, 30 August 2011, as a regular holiday throughout the country."
Corresponding compensation should be applied to those who are required to render work on this day based on the existing labor law.
Everyone should expect a long weekend this last week of August since August 29 is also a non-working holiday since it is a " National Heroes Day"
